As with any of the Special Operations units in the U.S. Military, it takes endurance, stamina, intelligence and mental toughness to become a Ranger. The Army Rangers require their candidates to score the following prior to attending. The most important pre-training exercise to do prior to Ranger school is walking fast in your boots with 50 pounds of weight on your back. You will do this everyday you are at Ranger School. Running at least 5 miles, 3-4 times a week and swimming in uniform 2-3 times a week is recommended as well. Do not answer n00b questions on the main boards. Use the report button. The programs are great but you need space and a good gym to use a lot of them. Like if your gym lacks equipment you will probably have to buy it yourself(KB's, olympic bar, etc), similarly if you just don't have gym access you won't be able to do them because they really follow a strict gym routine.

For guys just doing the calisthenics only approach, they will find it hard to use Shaul's programming. Other than that it's great. You can still buy it and just follow the ruck and running parts.

But then if you were going to do that, I would just recommend Stew Smith, it's much cheaper. Best bet is to join a CF gym and just ask them if you can workout instead of doing the WODs. Most of these sorts of programs will be very difficult to complete in a 'regular' gym, just bc they tend to use a huge variety of equipment and and require you to be able to do obnoxious shit like wall balls, slam balls, wall walks, etc).you may also want to check out sofwods.

Run by a former PJ that was a D1 swimmer at U Tennessee. Very good guy. Has at least one former SF guy and a few other AFSOC guys chiming in with the programming as well.

I think (maybe!) you can get the WODs for free as well. I'm not a fan of SOF wod. The current WODs are written by good crossfitters rather than SOF guys. They just are too difficult and complex.

The last time I was on the website, they had a deload week and still programmed 10x400m sprints and heavy snatches. They have extremely weird programming. Either its extremely difficult like snatches or too metcony. There is a huge lack of basic movements like the standard OHP, squat, front squat, row, deadlift, RDL, and bench. But than again, basic movements combined with push ups, pull ups, dips, and sit ups and simple running (distance and intervals) isn't very sexyEdit: Just looked at their website. They have improved quite a bit.

But my point still stands. Yeah I did some research after his recommendation, and it just looks like crossfit.

Not really impressed. Tactical's is way more in depth and they have a lot of experience behind that staff and team.

SOFWODS look like it started great but whatever PJ that was writing the stuff at the beginning is probably chilling letting his friends write it now. MTN Tactical's program are constantly reevaluated and made better cause Mr. Shaul is a training fanatic lol. I think a combination of Mtn Tactical Programming and Stew Smith will make anyone into a machine in about a year.
