Statement lists can be altered into function block diagram or ladder diagrams, as far as they are displayable. The display of Function Block Diagrams and Ladder Diagrams in form of State Statement Lists is always possible.The OsciCAM® allows to analyze motion processes through synchronisation of previously recorded videos and process signals.

Recorded videos can be shown synchronously to process signals and a recorded block status of the PLC with time stamp.With the Statusrecorder, dynamic procedures can be explored by subsequently analysis of the block status frame by frame. The Statusrecorder logs the block status and shows these with time stamp, permitting subsequent changing between the presentations STL, CSF and LAD.With the Oscilloscope feature the diagnostic capabilities of the programming system are further enhanced. Dynamic processes can be monitored and analyzed in an integrated screen, in look and feel adapted from an oscilloscope front panel. Pointing to I/O signals with a virtual test probe is sufficient for monitoring multiple signals inside the virtual oscilloscope.

Signal recording can be stopped at any time for further timing investigation of the machine fault. Besides watching I/O signals, also the state of local variables at a defined position of program execution can be watched, by simply pointing to the variable with the test probe in block status. Only the integration into the programming system S5 for Windows® makes this possible.

The recorded data can also be saved for later investigation, for archiving purposes or to send the information via e-mail.With S5 for Windows® multiple segments can be shown in the status display representations statement list, function block diagram and ladder diagram. The CPU status function provides information about interrupt stack, block stack and system data.S5 for Windows® allows calling the COM packages. Communication to a PLC can be established via an USB adaptor.The G5 for Windows® Step Sequence Programming (now included within S5 for Windows®) is a tool for easy programming sequential steps (sequencer control) within a STEP5 PLC program. A Step Sequence programmed in a Step Sequence Block (SB) is made out of steps and transitions.

The transitions logic is used to enable the following step. The graphical G5 for Windows® Step Sequence Programming supports linear sequences, alternative branching, simultaneous branching and jumps. Steps are displayed with boxes. There is a differentiation between an initial step, a permanent step, and a selective step. The initial step is used for an unconditional start of the Step Sequence. The instructions of a permanent step will always be executed even if the step flag is not active. The instructions of a selective step will be jumped over if the step flag is not active.Transitions are displayed as lines.

The following step will only be executed if the logic of a transition is true. With a simultaneous branch it is possible to branch up to eight (8) further steps. The graphical display of steps and transitions may include comments.

With the exception of the initial step, each step may be assigned to a time. This could be a waiting time (delay timer) or a monitoring time (watch dog). The G5 for Windows® Graphical Step Sequence programming is compatible to the SIEMENS GRAPH5 and GRAPH5/II PLC programming package and therefore it also needs the standard SIEMENS Function and Step Blocks (FB70/71 - SB0, FB72 - SB2, FB73 - SB3). Simultaneously to the actual Step Sequence the logic of the selected Step or Transition is displayed in a separate window.

The size of the step boxes is adjustable to the size (number of characters per line, number of lines) of the used comments. The status display has the same layout as the editor window. Hello, I have searched all over the internet to find away to backup our siemens s5 and s7 key disks because they are getting to the point that we have to read them 3 times in order to get the authors.exe program to recogonize that there is a key there. I talked to siemens and they wont send you a key disk unless you dont have a key disk or if you do have one they will send you a new one after they have received yours in the mail. They only problem with that is that if siemens ever discontinues their support for s5 which my boss has a feeling is coming, we wont have any way to replace the key disks. So if anyone has a program or knows a way to copy them.for backup use only. then i would be much obliged.

I once even got them to send me the new disk first and afterwards I had to sent them the faulty one back. They had me on the phone and they guided me through a procedure of theirs to investigate what went wrong first.

It was no trouble at all for me except for the fact that the gentleman on the line was from Germany and didn't speak English very well. Because I have enough speaking knowledge of German we finished in German all over. No big deal at all.Kind regards.

Okay Guys,I have a problem with this key disk issue and authorisation.For me it's all bullsh. Lets take an example, if you need authorisation you have either bought the software and bolloxed up the disk you had. Maybe you didn't buy the software but you need to have the licence to programme Siemens kit. Which has been bought and paid for!!

Maybe you had the licence and 'optimised' your hard drive (which loses all your licence). Doesn't detract from the fact you paid for it. You are working with Siemens stuff and you are in sh.t. When you are on the hard end commissioning in a third world with no internet, no fax, production is stopped and you really need to make what siemens supplied work. What do you do???I've been there, done it, got the T shirt. I have found a way round getting Siemens stuff running whilst the offices are closed and no b.gger can help you because they are all on holiday.and because I have been a tidy little lad cleaning up my computer optimising my hard disk not knowing that this erases all your licences. Have been left in dire straights.Therefore there is no reason that any commissioning engineer should be ever left alone without the ability to quickly and easily get an authorisation which he or she needs for Siemens software or the ability to get very expensive paid for Siemens hardware running.So of you are a legit person using legit software or commissioning Siemens stuff and need help.

What else are they going to use it for? Programming a Siemens PLC!!Helping Siemens be used in manufacturing and industry, help make Siemens stuff that is bugged beyond belief actually work. Like all versions of ProTool. But you are absolutely correct. I would have no idea who is legit or not. But I cannot see any use or advantage or benefit, whatsoever, that anyone can obtain personally or financially by using a Siemens programme to programme Siemens hardware, either way it's paid for. I do not condone Piracy, but I believe in getting the job done in industry, that everyone has paid for and expects to be able to work 356 days a year regardless of anything.

It's been paid for!! I appreciate the cost and development, but there is no reason that us guys on site should be restrained or restricted in making the hardware work for what it has been designed to do by software licencing. My biggest beef is that if someone buys the hardware.

Why don't they also get the full kit to programme it as well. Put it in the price! When you buy a car. You don't have to buy the software and authorisation to make it work do you!!Imagine if they didn't give you the ignition key!!I know it sounds crazy. Hi Richard,You are quite right - you can't allow the loss of a license to stop a project or commissioning job. Think however of some of our buddies that shouldn't be doing it in the first place!! Convenient loss of a license should be considered the gift horse that it really is - I am sure that you know plenty of people who call themselves commissioning engineers who shouldn't be allowed to commission the hole in a doughnut.For what it is worth, don't try the cracked.dll's with S7 5.3, you will get in a terrible pickle. The license disk is backupable (or copyable?) with the standard utilities - of course not under 2K, NT or XP, but there is also a much more 'safe' and slick way of backing up or otherwise storing your licenses.Fred.

It wasn't that long ago that computers didn't come with the 'productivity pack' or whatever they call it these days. As an OEM, no I wouldn't. My total cost is less with the software separate from the PLC since my one copy of software allows me to program hundreds of plcs.

An end user will have a different opinion.I'm still of the opinion that the fact that you don't like the model doesn't give you the right to circumvent it. You are talking about cases where paying users are losing authorizations. I still contend that any solution you provide can be used by someone who never paid for the software in the first place.

Why should they get the software for free when I paid for it?But I also see the need to be able to continue development if you lose your once valid authorization. I don't know what the answer is but I don't think that generating illegal authorizations is it.Keith. You have the option with a PC to use Star Office or a variety of other free applications instead of Word etc. So you are paying for the compatibility and options available in the purchased packages.

This also helps to keep costs reasonable as there are options. If you have a particular brand of PLC you need 'their' software and have little or no other options creating a sort of monopoly so they can charge what they want unless it reaches the point of causing users to switch entire PLC brands. Who wants to switch from a PC word processor to a Mac even if it's better/cheaper when everything else he owns runs on a PC.That said I do believe they deserve a 'reasonable' price for the software whether or not it separate or amortized in thew hardware but I also find that for such high tech automation products the software is often lacking in features, usability, and stability while extreme in price. And then they want a copy of the programme!!Having been commissioning Siemens Plc's for 16 years I have come up against all manner of ways to get into trouble and thus find ways to get out trouble when in the deepest darkest depths of some foreign country with no phone or internet. I remember the days when we were lucky if we had a fax machine in the place we were working, and we still had to get the job done (sigh. The good old days:-))I like to help other engineers who are out in the field and have my number when they can't get through to the company or suppliers.

I don't approve of anyone using cracks or pilfered licences. Because if they are pucker. They won't need them. I have however taught some engineers whose computers have crashed, been nicked, lost them when.ed up etc. How to get out of trouble.Maybe I am too trusting. Nice to hear peoples opinions.happy new year.Richard. As regarding Backup I simply image my hard drive using Drive Image. In the event of a emergency i simply restore from CD. I also keep all my project files on a seperate partition to the bootable windows partition. I've worked closely with siemens service guys in the past and thats the method they Use.Steve.Or! Create a very small partition (5 - 10Mb) on your hard drive with XP, ghost or drive image, install Siemens and any other (AB?) licence info onto that new partition then backup that drive with the ghost or drive image to CD!

This way you don’t have to restore your whole operating system when you have a problem! Simply restore the partition.You can then even store the activation back to the keydisk for safe keeping! (if your laptop gets stolen for example!).

As a commissioning engineer of 14 years world wide experience I have to agree that the system of activation files for PLC programming software in my opinion is very bad.Several times I have been in remote locations with no internet etc. Not even a reliable phone and for one reason or another, the Rockwell or Siemens licence files have screwed up.Without having a backup you are completely screwed. In these situations with communications problems, time difference etc., simply calling the tech support for a new disk or reset code etc. Is simply not an option. This has been done a 100 times before, and yes, I agree on your comments regarding being stuck half way up the limpopo and losing your licenses. One of the things that puzzles me slightly is that people go to places like this without worrying about backing up their operating system, or program files.My solution is a USB harddrive with a couple of images of the laptop harddrive - One clean with no operating system, and one with all my software installed, but no junk. I wont help in explaining how to copy the license (No dout some dofus will help with this).However, I can give two tips that can be used with Siemens software in case you are stuck somewhere with a scratched license floppy:1.

Simply install the software and skip the license transfer. Then when you start the software, you will prompted to install a license or accept to activate the trial license. Just accept the trial license and you have 14 days to do what you want to do.or.2. Install the software on the target PC, and if you have your laptop with a similar license, or maybe the license on a USB stick, then transfer the license to the target PC, and then back again to the laptop/USB stick. There will be a trail on the target PC that there was once a license installed, and the software then allows you to run as normal - but with frequent nag-screens. I guess that the logic in that is that Siemens figures that you are a legitimate owner of the software that just happens to have trouble with a corrupt license.(Note: It is only possible to use a USB stick with 'floating' type licenses).Please note that the above is legal as long as you have actually purchased the number of softwares that you are actually running. So it is OK if the problem is with the license floppy or the floppy drive itself.
